Does it really work on any car?+
Any combustion car from 2001 onwards and any EV or hybrid from 2015 onwards. The acoustic model covers engine, suspension, drivetrain and braking faults. OBD-II adds sensor-level detail through the OBDLink MX+.
Do I need to buy any hardware?+
No. The Free plan runs on your iPhone's built-in mic alone. The OBDLink MX+ dongle is optional — it unlocks full DTC codes and OEM PIDs for drivers who want a deeper view.
Is the scan accurate?+
On our 200-clip v1 benchmark, Auscult scored 81% top-1 accuracy vs a 73% median for ASE-certified mechanics listening blind. Full methodology and per-class confusion matrix are public on /benchmark.
Is my data private?+
Audio is processed on-device via Core ML and never leaves your phone. Only the anonymised verdict reaches a workshop — and only if you tap Send. Fully GDPR, EU servers, end-to-end encrypted.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Settings → Subscription → Cancel. Takes effect on the next billing cycle. No forms, no retention calls, no fine print.
